Israel

Lakewood Baptist Church believes that the descendants of Biblical Abraham through Isaac and Jacob represented in today's world by the Jewish people and the Nation of Israel are the chosen people of God. God enacted four literal, unilateral and unconditional covenants with Abraham and his descendants through Isaac. Since God is the originator of these covenants and they are unilateral and unconditional, they will be brought to completion regardless of the frailty or failure of men.

These covenants are:

The Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 12:1-3; 13:14-18;15:1-21; 17:4-8; 22:15-24; 26:1-5; 28:10-15).

In this covenant God promised to Abraham and his descendants a land, a descendant to rule, and a blessing from God upon him and all flesh.

The Land Covenant (Deuteronomy 30:1-10).

This Covenant is an expansion of the land portion of the Abrahamic Covenant that promised to the Jewish nation all of the land from the Western Sea to the Euphrates River, from the north of Lebanon to the River of Egypt.

The Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7: 4-16).

This covenant is an expansion of the Descendant portion of the Abrahamic Covenant that promised that a descendant of David would be the One Who would be established upon the Throne of David to rule from Jerusalem forever.

The New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-40; Hebrews 8: 6-13.)

This covenant is an expansion of the Abrahamic Covenant blessing portion that promises God will establish a covenant with Israel in which He will replace the conditional Mosaic Covenant, which has been broken, with a New Covenant wherein the knowledge of God will be internalized (the new birth) and their sins will be forgiven and remembered no more. This New Covenant is also an expansion of the statement in the Abrahamic Covenant where God promises that all the nations (Gentiles) of the earth will be blessed “ this is seen in the Gospel message of Christianity where "whosoever will may come is the standard of knowing God by faith through His Son, Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8, 9).

While individual Jewish people come to faith in Jesus Christ as their Redeemer-Messiah, national Israel remains in unbelief today until "the fullness of the Gentiles be come in completion of the Christian Church Romans 11:25, 26.

Lakewood Baptist Church rejects any and all attempts, theological or ecclesiastical, to suggest that God is finished with His People, Israel, or that the church has replaced Israel in God's economy, or is heir to the unfulfilled promises made to Israel in the Bible. During the present age, God's program of regeneration for Israel as a nation has been temporarily set aside while He assembles the Bride of Christ, the universal body of believers. We heartily endorse the statement of Romans 11:26 that "all Israel will be saved after the completion of the church the fullness of the Gentiles “ Romans 11:25.

Lakewood Baptist Church believes that Christian believers today have an obligation to pray for the Jewish People and the Nation of Israel and to strive to share the Truth of God's Word with them until the time when all Israel is saved.
